James 5:13-18 ESV

Is anyone among you suffering?  Let him pray.  Is anyone cheerful?  Let him sing praise.  Is anyone among you sick?  Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.  And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up.  And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.  Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.  The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.  Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth.  Then he prayed again, and heaven gave rain, and the earth bore its fruit.

I'm officially lactose. It's sad. I mean, I don't drink milk all that much. But to be restricted of a food category just sucks. No allergies or crazy health conditions all my life and now. I'm lactose. It doesn't feel good.

On a happier note. Community Group today. :)

1 Corinthians 1:26-31

Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things--and the things that are not--to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you were in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God--that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: "Let him who boasts boast in the Lord".

Good day.

ACW AUDITION SPRING 2007

3:07PM      I'm planning to bring xanga back. I still like facebook but it's a bit ... restrictive? Facebook--it's just used for conversing with others but with xanga: you can actually express [fill in the blank].

Well, it's been tough, especially with new responsibilities, heavier school load, and work (the commute). It has been refreshing as well: seeing how much I suck at everything but yet have this peace. and possibly joy. =) But I'm stressed out as well. it's weird: I somehow thought I had the ability to cope with stress (better than before) but no. It's hard: because so many worries and thoughts go through my head and it becomes headaches and tenseness. Don't worry, I'm not having panic/anxiety disorders left and right. But even through these periods of "tenseness," it's been a blessing to see more and more of my sin--not trusting in the LORD [Trust in the Lord with all your heart; and don't lean on your own understanding. In all things acknowledge him, and he shall direct your way Proverbs 3:5-6] and not rejoicing in the new life that we've been given [Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:4-6]

O Christ, He is the fountain, the deep, sweet well of love!
The streams of ocean I've tasted more deep I'll drink above:
There to an ocean fullness His mercy doth expand,
And glory, glory dwelleth in Immanuel's land.

Love is All You Need? Reexamining Romantic Love
March 20 | Lecture Center D5 | 6:30-8:30 PM

Romantic love is the theme of countless books, songs, films and other media that saturate our everyday lives. Our culture pursues romance relentlessly, depicting it as an irresistible feeling, the ultimate good, the greatest prize, even as a means of salvation. How should Christians think about romantic love? This seminar will examine the messages our culture sends us about romantic love (using film as a text) and then examine these messages in light of the Bible and Christian theology. This seminar may be useful for those who enjoy analyzing popular culture through a theological lens.

Social Justice
March 20 | SCE 305 | 6:00-8:00 PM

What does the Bible have to say about social justice and what should and can believers in Christ do about it? Take a look at social justice from the view of the Word, in the scope of the world around us, and practical applications you can make -- and steps you can take -- today. (Updated description TBA)

How to Look for a Religion
March 21 | SCE 605 | 5:30-7:30 PM

Most of us (Christian or otherwise) adopt religious and philosophical beliefs for arbitrary reasons. Many of us pick and choose whatever appeals to what we want to be true. Some of us stick with whatever we were born into. Precious few engage in serious study and research to determine why we should adhere to one metaphysical belief over all others. Come hear interesting arguments on how commonly held beliefs hold up to the scrutiny of logic and evidence and how Christian beliefs compare.

Missions
March 21 | Lecture Center D4 | 6:00-8:00 PM

What about the the Great Commission? Are you called to be a missionary? What's involved, and what can you do now to prepare for the future? Take a deeper look into global and local missions as Chicago's very own YWAM representative answers some core questions. (Updated description TBA)

Why Does God Allow Pain and Suffering?
March 21 | Lecture Center D5 | 6:00-8:00 PM

As Christians, we are often struck with the misconception that if God were a loving God that He will provide us a nice and comfortable life. Since this is the thought, how can God allow pain and suffering? What are its purposes and are we being punished when we face trials and hardships? This seminar will hope to help you think about why God allows pain and suffering in our lives and to help all of us in our daily walks. God knows that storms are going to come in our lives and so often we wonder where God is through all the hurt and pain. Come and we will look together at the issue of pain and suffering.
